“The methods of theoretical physics should be applicable to all those branches of thought in which the essential features are expressible with numbers.” (Paul A. M. Dirac, Nobel Prize Banquet Speech,1933). Taking that further, a better understanding of the mind could be an extra benefit from the use of concepts from Dirac’s physics and notation, already an established standard, to implement a probabilistic “thinking web” on the Internet. The motivation is the current lack of agreement on how to implement such a web, and even a basic lack of accord as to the nature of probability and probabilistic inference. The need for a thinking web for medicine, capable of handling uncertainty, is particularly pressing. A return to
exploring basic mathematical and algorithmic principles may provide the answer, and it might lie largely in a single transformation, a Lorentz transformation of wave mechanics from an i-complex to an h-complex (hyperbolic complex, split complex) system, with relatively little modification. Remarkably, it seems relatively easy to see at least in general terms, what the mental and even neural correlates of this mathematics might be, expressed as a principle of Dirac decomposition as mathematical dualization
