A journal entry written by Lee Sonogan
When will these companies stop all the rename attempts/wins when there is greater meaning there to personally own? Scary in a simple two-word title is the most interesting thing they can do and comment on, will they start changing the ingredients next? This petition is pushed towards us by a group saying “As a part of the LGBTQIA+ community I believe my sexual identity is owned by me, not a brand and that the outdated meaning no longer applies. Isn’t it time for this double entendre to end?”. How does this themed ice cream joke in some ads only directly affect a bunch of people? and a whole spectrum of people who rationally live, accepting this is not a big deal.
Brands pick up these causes all the time because its good for marketing implementing any bad news is good news. I swear time and effort into these vague protests are so much more effective if everyone was less apolitical over these simple things in language. It is only a tyranny of linguistics if we let it be… Having a gaytime is associate with all sexual preferences when even the straightest of men like to have a wholesome good wrestle.
Originally the term means happy and being offended by one definition out of hundreds of others is the thought police on simply pleasure we all take for granted. Using the Twitter trend of this only reaching a thousand people in Australia and most of this commenting how ridiculous it is. This is an indicator of going backwards to what the gay right was all about. Being normal like everyone else but overall respect in the minority of being an individual…
“Just to be a gay man, even in 2021 is still hard … I’m not calling for the product to be cancelled, I’m calling for the product to remove Gay from its name,”. With that logic, I disagree with, am I never able to use that singular word good or bad? Or only to what you considered status quo gender problems?
