Martin Scorsese's “Shutter Island” (2010) – THE DIRECTORS SERIES

I originally saw this film when it came out but couldn’t remember it well enough to give it a rating or write a review, so a rewatch was in order. I viewed the film through the lens of already knowing the plot twist, which made it a whole different experience. The ending will be remembered throughout film history as one that showed just how viciously a well written script can flip an audience over. This really is a film you should see twice. – jackgemoss (IMDB -10/10)

Shutter Island is another classic by the legendary director much more than a one-hit-wonder. Martin Scorsese known for his cinematography and process into the dramatic story, this was as solid as those but almost a new genre for him. Emphasizing with the mystery and psychological thrilling elements, it crosses all the boxes in the red herring department and the delivery of engagement in what is considered unique. Plus the cast in the time period piece has some outstanding performance.

Remembering it fonding, there is plenty of rewatch value considering its bulky overall length. Conflicting with the criminally insane this is a highly underrated film starring Leonardo Dicaprio who goes all out. The dark and grittiness of the investigative approach is something out of a good Batman, then the most satisfying plot twists and perspectives change developing much intrigue. Almost neo-psychedelic in a way, the flow is amazing in smoke and mirrors.

Hard to play devil’s advocate because it did so much good, the brooding bunch in the comments section might just be very picky in their preferences. So much complexity is packed in that it could go beyond your head although some particular scenes might be enough to put you off. Regardless, I highly recommend it to all fans of this type of fiction or even non-fiction if you need some suspense in your life. Concluding on this note, something that keeps you guessing like this is stimulating for the brain and the soul!

I’ll keep it short. This film is one of the best films I have seen recently. So intense, thrilling and it keeps you to the edge of your seat. From prologue to the epilogue it’s so perfect. What can you expect more from a director of his caliber.!!!!! Falling_Hammer (Metacritic 10/10)
