A list written by Lee Sonogan
Raging against a recent randomizer nuzlocke challenge recently, I miss the days when I just enjoyed new fan-made games just like this. Over the years older video games have been transformed and modded out to provide greater experience compared to modern mainstream remakes. Emulation edits have been made for ages using Pokemon ROMs as a base. Their original games have been made focusing on the more serious story, adaptation of different themes and most importantly as engaging as they possibly can. The following list is in no particular order.
5. Pokemon Mega Power
Made from the GBA Pokemon Emerald ROM, it has entirely new sprites. A unique story with two regions and a post-game location. Several generations of Pokemon from IV, V, VI and VII to find.
4. Pokemon Adventures Red Chapter
This one shows an emphasis on the original and more adult manga. Won hack of the year three times in a row. Levels of Pokemon can go up to 255, on the other hand, it is the complete arc of the source material
3. Rocket Edition
Ever wondered what a game in the perspective of a Team Rocket member would be like? Capturing the essence of being the bad guy by the amount of Pokemon being able to steal. Set in the Kanto world, Team Rocket seems like they know what there doing,
2. Pokemon Gaia
After a calamity of the earthquake, you play in this dystopian world. Moves and other aspects from many generations are available. Features Pokemon from Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos. Been around for a while, meaning highly updatable further.
1. Pokemon Glazed
Intertwined stories with challenging AI. Many different updates adding heaps of new features. Overall it is preased as the best Pokemon fan game ever made. It throws battles at you left right and centre to then have many ways to train in side quests. Dialogue is of quality and contains three regions being two fresh worlds and Johto. Very satisfying, this may be the first hack I would recommend to play for yourself.
