One more political figure from history that is still relevant in modern times. Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States and led the nation through the American Civil war from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. He will always be known for abolishing slavery in American while preserving the northern states in America. From what he did and what he said any good politician or person can learn a lot from this man.

  • “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” ― Abraham Lincoln

  • “Slavery is founded in the selfishness of man’s nature — opposition to it is in his love of justice. These principles are an eternal antagonism; and when brought into collision so fiercely, as slavery extension brings them, shocks, and throes, and convulsions must ceaselessly follow. Repeal the Missouri Compromise — repeal all compromises — repeal the declaration of independence — repeal all past history, you still can not repeal human nature. It still will be the abundance of man’s heart, that slavery extension is wrong; and out of the abundance of his heart, his mouth will continue to speak.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “The people will save their government, if the government itself will allow them.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what light I have.” ― Abraham Lincoln

  • “I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “No man is good enough to govern another man without the other’s consent.”
    ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “When I get ready to talk to people, I spend two thirds of the time thinking what they want to hear and one third thinking about what I want to say.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “In this sad world of ours sorrow comes to all and it often comes with bitter agony. Perfect relief is not possible except with time. You cannot now believe that you will ever feel better. But this is not true. You are sure to be happy again. Knowing this, truly believing it will make you less miserable now. I have had enough experience to make this statement.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “Whatever you are, be a good one.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” ― Abraham Lincoln
  • “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.” ― Abraham Lincoln

In Australia, there was a federal election a couple of months ago. None of the candidates came even close to the type of leader Abraham Lincoln was and the policies they were pushing are attack tactics opposing each other and anything else they can say to gain attention from a country who just does not care anymore. Once again I made a compulsory donkey vote this year…
