The Instructor:In the beginning, there was man. And for a time, it was good. But humanity’s so-called civil societies soon fell victim to vanity and corruption. Then man made the machine in his own likeness. Thus did man become the architect of his own demise.
The first Matrix movie is one of the best movies of all time according to the top 250 list on IMDB.com and it is in my top 10 movies of all time as well. The Animatrix is a collection of several short animated films detailing additional stories within the Matrix universe and the original war between man and machine. Each story is unique in its own style while enjoyable to watch in any order.
There is a total of nine short films within this animated movie. With a strong influence from anime films each story is animation at its finest. The Second Renaissance Part 1 and 2 is the most graphical and intense story but my favourite one in the movie is World Record. Which can be explained as a track runner who discovers the true nature of his reality. Regardless how different the stories are they are full of interesting science fiction concepts that create interesting storytelling.
Overall the stories in this animated movie are superior to the two sequels in the Matrix trilogy but it does not beat the original movie made in 1999. At least 2 or three stories in this movie could be turned into a full-length live action movie or a long animated movie. To truly appreciate this movie you will need to have seen the first Matrix movie. I highly recommend this animated movie if you agree that The Matrix is one of the best movies ever made.
PS. Also the music in this animated film is used to make each story more intense!
Machine: Your flesh is a relic, a mere vessel. Hand over your flesh and a new world awaits you. We demand it!
