On his quotes alone Oscar Wilde’s aestheticism makes you believe in the philosophy. Our culture remembers Oscar by his beautiful words, influence on art for art’s sake and the events that lead to his death.

The books I want to read from Oscar Wilde include The Importance of Being Earnest, The Picture of Dorian Gray and a collection of short stories. In the preface to The Picture of Dorian Gray Oscar Wilde wrote “Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril. Those who read the symbol do so at their peril. It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors. Diversity of opinion about a work of art shows that the work is new, complex and vital.
