A list written by: Lee Sonogan

Either restarting a movie franchise or remaking a single movie, Hollywood is recycling a lot of their content. This is not necessary a bad thing but, has the potential to make a classic film even worse. Each remake or reboot has officially been announced in one way or another and in the same way, I do a lot of Top 10 lists, this following top 10 list is in no particular order.

10. The Birds

Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller film will be remade. The Birds still hold up against modern movies today, except one obvious green screen scene in the movie. With Micheal Bay set to produce this film, the budget and direction could become darker and more brutal. But will CGI birds be better than the real birds from the original movie?

9. Bloodsport

To begin with, this may be my favourite Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. Bloodsport for its time was very brutal with its action scenes. In the new version, they intend to make it more character driven, although progress on this one has been very slow.

8. Akira

On one hand, this animated movie should not be made into a live action movie. On the other hand, I would like to see a live action movie if it captures the same themes and style of the famous animated movie. Ghost in a Shell failed in there live action movie, but this one has a better chance to be a success.

7. Blade

Marvel Studio has been in talks about rebooting the Blade franchise. According to the man himself, Wesley Snipes, the talks have “been good” and if they can not make a movie, he could reprise his role on Netflix.

6. The Matrix

In this whole top 10 list, I hope this one does not disappoint. Above all, this movie is too good to be remade. But if they could make it better than the original and remake the sequels better while keeping to its original style, then I would be very happy. Zak Penn of Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: First Class is currently in talks to write.

5. Starship Troopers

Mark Swift and Damian Shannon are working on a screenplay for a new Starship Troopers. As of right now, it is unclear whenever they extended to base the remake on the original novel by Robert A. Heinlein or from the movie made in the nineties.

4. Ace Ventura

With an attempt to revive Ace Venture, the new movie will not be including Jim Carey. According to Deadline, Morgan Creek Productions have been trying to sell the rights to a lot of their properties, but have held onto the remake rights for a new Ace Ventura.

3. Green Lantern

The first Green Lantern was a disaster and deserves a second chance. In spite of Ryan Reynolds playing Hal Jordan in an origin story, the overall story went way to fast and the special effect did not look to great. Luckily, the DC movie Green Lantern Corps is expected to be released sometime in 2020.

2. Escape From New York

One of John Carpenter’s classic movies set in a dystopian future as well as the movie that made Kurt Russel a star. While its concepts were a bit far-fetched during the time of its release, director Robert Rodriguez has attached himself to this project to potentially direct, produce, write or all three together.

1. Memento

The film that launched Christopher Nolan’s career and this remake will not have him be involved at all. AMBI Pictures own the rights to movies such as The Passion of the Christ, Robot & Frank, Rush, Cruel Intentions, Donnie Darko and much more. At the moment, Memento seems to be their top priority and many fans have their concerns for it.

All the movies listed above are movies that I will most likely end up watching. In short, if the original content was good, it would be interesting to see a new version of it in the present.
