The Royal Rumble is one of the best professional wrestling shows of the year. And I started watching it today shortly around the time it finished in real life. The show had many interesting matches booked and had the potential to be one of the best Royal Rumble shows ever. With a lot of rumours going around anything could have happened.

Matches and results:
Pre – show (Did not watch the preshow)
  • Tag Team match- Bobby Roode and Chad Gable defeated Rezar and Scott Dawson (with Drake Maverick) (6:55)
  • Singles match for the WWE United States Championship- Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Rusev (c) (with Lana) (10:15)
  • Fatal four-way match for the WWE Crusierwight championship- Buddy Murphy (c) defeated Akira Tozawa, Hideo Itami, and Kalisto (12:05)
Main Show
  • Singles match for the WWE Women’s Championship – Asuka (c) defeated Becky Lynch by submission (17:10)

A non-expected opening match at the start of the show. They booked this one right. Hard hitting and technical, they both put in offensive and defensive equal to each other. Managed to be technical at a very fast pace. Becky and Askuka have some in-ring chemistry that could improve if they continue to wrestle each other. I rate the match 3.4/5

  • Tag Team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship – The Miz and Shane McMahon defeated The Bar (Cesaro and Sheamus) (c) (13:20)

The worst match of the entire show. I like The Miz. But this thing he has with Shane Mcmahon does not interest me. Even though they are now the new tag champions of SmackDown, I will be more interest when they lose them and The Miz betrays Shane to set up some sort of hardcore match at WrestleMania. I rate the match 2.3/5

  • Singles match for the WWE Women’s Championship- Ronda Rousey (c) defeated Sasha Banks (13:55)

The one thing I like about Ronda Rousey is while she is doing a thing like Brock Lesnar, she does not have to dominate. If you compare this match with the Universal match, Sasha Banks got more out of it losing then Finn Balor Against Brock Lesnar. Sasha matching submission move after another with Ronda was something to see. I rate the match 3.4/5

  • 30-Women Royal Rumble match- Becky Lynch won by last eliminating Charlotte Flair (1:12:00)

With Becky Lynch double booked, she was the most logical choice for winning the women royal rumble. If I had a favourite female wrestler right now it would be her. Her transformation into The Man can only be compared towards the rise of Stone Cold Steve Austin. Of course, the last two were Charlotte and Becky. This should have been at the end of the show to have Becky wrestle the first and last match while winning. But there is a good chance that Becky will be a part of the first women main even at Wrestlemania in history. I rate the match 3.6/5

  • Singles match for the WWE Championship – Daniel Bryan (c) defeated AJ Styles (24:35)

Putting on a match after a Royal Rumble match would be hard for anyone. These two pulled something else out compared to what they normally do. Both men told a story of two people releasing nothing but aggression out. Then AJ Styles was dogged by that ending of the 24-minute match. I rate the match 3.1/5

  • Singles match for the WWE Universal Championship – Brock Lesnar (c) (with Paul Heyman) defeated Finn Bálor by submission (8:40)

So sick of Lesnar matches. The red beast at least sells well for his opponents. Finn Balor got something out of this. But probably not as much as he wanted. I rate the match 2.6/5

  • 30-Man Royal Rumble match – Seth Rollins won by last eliminating Braun Strowman (57:35)

Overall this one was consistently a better quality rumble then the women’s one. Watching this match it had a lot of wrestlers who could be potential champions in the near future. At the end it sorta got weird. But Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins in the final two make sense along with what they have been doing on Raw. I rate the match 3.5/5

This show was a bit over the place still, it managed to create something interesting. Setting up WrestleMania already, not many other rivalries were set up like some of the rumours said it would. Professional wrestling rumours are about 50 50 at best, getting some right half of the time.

PPV OVERALL RATING: 3.2/5
