I have never been so excited for an action/adventure family film since I was a kid. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures, and The Pokémon Company, it is based on the video games franchise of the same name. Being the first live-action movie, its first trailer on the Warner Bros. YouTube channel has already gotten over 46 million views. First thought after watching the trailer nine days ago was it appeals to all fans of Pokemon and also friendly enough for anyone to watch.
Wikipedia describes this movie as, In the Pokémon universe, Tim Goodman is a former Pokémon Trainer and the son of prominent detective Harry Goodman. When his father disappears in a car crash, Tim arrives in Ryme City and ends up meeting Detective Pikachu, who was Harry’s former Pokémon partner. Tim is somehow able to understand the Detective, and they reluctantly team up to find Harry and uncover the mystery surrounding his disappearance.
Interesting facts about this upcoming movie:
- A petition was made to have Danny DeVito to voice Pikachu.
- The voice over for large crowd chants were recorded during the Pokémon World Championships 2018 in Nashville.
- One of the 3 Video Game themed films of 2019. The others being The Angry Birds Movie 2 in 2019 by Columbia Pictures/Sony Animation and Sonic the Hedgehog in 2019 by Paramount Animation.
- According to a report from May of 2016, Nintendo could possibly release more feature films based off of its video games. Its last movie was Super Mario Bros. In 1993 which has been considered by the company as a flop.
- The realistic style of the Pokémon were based on the artwork by RJ Palmer. The movie’s production designer discovered him while he was looking for realistic Pokémon designs on the internet, and he was so impressed by Palmer’s artwork that he gave him a job as the concept artist for the movie.
Ryan Reynolds is a good second choice other than Danny Devito. These days we have way better technology to do CGI effects in movies and more. From looking at this trailer featured below you can clearly see the special effects in are look impressive by looking somewhat realistic. I will be watching this movie and I hope it lives up to what it should be. Just look at the video below and judge for self. This movie will be released next year in 2019.
