Professor Farnsworth: I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.

Created by the same creator of The Simpsons, Futurama follows the adventures of  a slacker Philip J. Fry, who is accidentally transported to the 31st century and finds work at an interplanetary delivery company. With 7 seasons and 140 episodes it lasted a very long time. Being cancelled in 2013 many fans and people involved want the tv show back. Matt Groening and David X. Cohen have previously expressed a desire to produce a theatrical film or another direct-to-video film upon the conclusion of the series.

Receiving seven Annie awards and 12 Emmy Awards it is a much-loved show. It inspires memes and conspiracy theory videos on the internet. When I first started watching this show I had to watch them all. I still have some Futurama comic books of it. There is many references throughout the show as well. Such as Bender’s apartment door number, 00100100, is binary for the dollar sign $. The show uses sound effects from Space: Above and Beyond (1995). And there is many more.

Billy West voices most of the characters on the show while Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio voice Leela, Benda and a few more during the series. West also auditioned for Bender. He played it like a construction worker. Katey Sagal starred in 8 Simple Rules (2002) and Sons of Anarchy (2008) between seasons. One more fact! Matt Groening actually bought the rights to use the “30th Century Fox” logo after Fox said they shouldn’t use it. A couple of months later, Fox said they loved it.

Recommended episodes of the television series list:
  1. Godfellas
  2. Roswell That Ends Well
  3. Jurassic Bark
  4. The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings
  5. Future Stock
  6. The Luck of the Fryish
  7. The Farnsworth Paradox
  8. Where No Fan Has Gone Before
  9. The Prisoner of Benda
  10. The Late Phillip J Fry

A show I have seen more than once. The futuristic world always leads to interesting concepts and stories. The humour is well-timed while bringing in drama elements to them. Fry, Bender and Leela are a good combination of main characters to have in a comedy show. Much like the Simpsons this show is full of amazing characters with episodes based on their characters. I recommend this show to anyone who likes The Simpsons and adult animated cartoons.

PS – Futurama also did a crossover episode in the Simpsons and as a comic book I read. Both of them are worth check out!
