Sandy Wexler, a movie review

A movie review by: Lee Sonogan

(2017) 2h10min/Comedy

The newest Adam Sandler movie to come out on Netflix. The movie according to IMDB is about Sandy Wexler a talent manager working in Los Angeles in the 1990s, diligently representing a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business. His single-minded devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with his newest client, Courtney Clarke, a tremendously talented singer whom he discovers at an amusement park. Over the course of a decade, the two of them play out a star-crossed love story.

A mockumentary/comedy with many famous people in it talking about Sandy Wexler. The movie is based on real-life talent manager, Sandy Wernick. This will mark the third film from Adam Sandler and Netflix after The Ridiculous 6, and The Do-Over. Then this film marks the 6th collaboration of Adam Sandler and Terry Crews.

This is an ambitious movie for Adam Sandler. He plays a different sort of character but his fake speech is very annoying. Story-wise it is very cliché and simple. The main story was about the romance with Jennifer Hudson’s character and it did not seem that real. Then the comedy was real bad. Corny, typical, and too easy jokes were the whole film. I was hoping for a decent movie since I liked his last Netflix movie. The movie was worse than my initial expectations. The ending has Adam Sandler singing… I recommend this movie to people who like 90’s nostalgia from MTV but, I would not recommend watching it to anyone else.

Sandy Wexler is pretty much a paint-by-the-numbers Adam Sandler movie. Which means it’s fairly enjoyable if you’ve liked past movies of his and can get past the similarities with some of his other movies. It’s pretty much a fish out of water storyline as Sandy Wexler is the manager to misfits and losers for the most part. He finds his first real talent, falls for her, faces hardships, changes and triumphs. It’s similar to most of his other movies, but it’s a workable formula for him – Chad Rasner (Google Review – 3/5)
