A movie review by: Lee Sonogan
(2016) 1h47min/ Action, horror, sci-fi
This movie apart of the Resident evil series is about Alice returns to where the nightmare began: The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. With a budget of $40 million dollars, it made $306 in the box office. With the release of this film, the Resident Evil franchise is the first horror franchise in history to cross over 1 billion dollars in total making it the highest grossing series of horror films of all time.
A TV series is supposedly in the works following the release of this final instalment to the Resident Evil film franchise. In the film’s chronology, it takes place merely three weeks after the previous film’s events Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) despite getting released four years after it. As of this film, Milla Jovovich is the only actor to appear in every single film of the series. Production on the film was delayed due to Milla Jovovich being pregnant with her second child.
Unlike _Resident: Afterlife (2010)_ and _Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)_ director ‘Paul W.S. Anderson’ didn’t shoot this in 3D. 95% of this film was shot with a hand-held camera which the director controlled himself. The film came out on January 27, 2017, three days after the release of the new instalment of the video game series, Resident Evil 7: biohazard.
I found this series to be average at best with the first one being the best. This movie is good in many aspects but still. What I do not like about the movie is the clichés and the over top dramatization without much character development. What is good about it is its actions scenes and special effects. The undead scenes are shot in an impressive way. Also credit due to the Game of Thrones actor for being a convincing bad guy compared to the average person in this world. The ending concludes with expected twists and it could be setting up for something different/sequels at the end. I recommend this movie to people who like action movies, fans of the series and fans of the video game series.
6.3/10
