Captain Fantastic, a movie review

A movie review: By Lee Sonogan

(2016) 1h58mins/Comedy, Drama, Romance

This movie is about a family that lives in the forest and then they experience something bad that, forces them to enter the real world. Viggo Mortensen, one of the actors in the Lord of the ring movies is an awesome in this movie. Plus all the kid and teenage actors in this movie do a awesome job too. Their characters are all intelligent and make some scenes in the movie. The film is rated R and has some controversial themes and underline plots.  They all openly mock the capitalist system that we all live in and make very good points.

The main actors in this film:

  • Viggo Mortenson
  • George Mackay
  • Samantha Isler
  • Annalise Basso
  • Nicholas Hamilton
  • Shree Crooks
  • Charlie Shotwell
  • Trin Miller
  • and more…

This movie was written and directed by Matt Ross and was inspired by his own family issues. On the site Metacritic, the film holds a rating of 72 out of 100, based on 36 critics, indicating “generally favourable reviews”. It received a ten-minute standing ovation at the 2016 Cannes film festival. This film made 7.7 million at the box office. It also won many awards in a different film festivals in different categories.

Bellian (one of the kid actors): If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world.

Overall, at the start of this movie, I was expecting good things according to its 8/10 rating on the website IMDB. I was not disappointed. This movie is funny, a serious drama and has some well-written scenes. Viggo Mortensen’s character slowly loses it as everyone questions his ability to look after his kids. This ends with is sad and is done well. I recommend this movie who like good adventure road trip movies and family movies.
