In the 3DS handheld games, thy added a new feature called mega evolution. You can evolve a Pokemon in battle and it gets stronger. If the individual Pokemon holds its mega evolution stone, it can evolve in battle. When this happens the Pokemons stats are increased and gain a new and powerful effect. Plus some even change their type. The Pokemon Gyrados is water, flying type. But when it mega evolves, it changes into a water, dark type. Making x4 weakness into a x2 weakness. Meaning, electric moves are super effective against water and flying types. A tip, Ground and Fighting type moves are super effective againsts 5 different Pokemon types. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Type
Pokemon all have different types of natures. These natures give a slight difference of stats. Increasing one and decreasing an other. For example, if you want a physical attacking Pokemon, you would want an adamant Pokemon. Where it will increase its physical attack and decreases its special attack. Make sure this Pokemon does not use a special attack and then it will not matter what its special attack is. If you want a special attacker, you would want your Pokemon to have a modest nature. Increasing its special attack and lowering its physical attack. Depending on what type of moves you want your Pokemon to have, the type of nature you should have on it. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nature
You can make your Pokemons stats even stronger. But it is a difficult process. You need to defeat certain Pokemon and you will gain EV’s (Effort values). If you beat many multiple Clefairys, you will get 2 HP EV’s. There are items to speed up the process for each different stat. There is a NPC in the game that tells you if you have maxed out a certain stat. The amount of EV’s you can get will alow you to max out at least two stats of your Pokemon. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Effort_values
In your team of six Pokemon, you shoulder consider having a mix of special attack and defensive Pokemon. Physical attack and defense Pokemon. A support Pokemon and/or a Pokemon with a mix of attacks. Your lead Pokemon could be anything. But depending on your strategy, it could use the move Spikes, Poison spikes, weather move and ect to get an early advantage.
Your attacking Pokemons moves get a boost if you attack with a move the same type as the Pokemon. This is called stab damage. Your attacking monsters could use these moves to boost up their power: Bulk up, Calm mind, Power up punch, charge beam, ancient power and so much more. Then use the move Batton pass to move the stats to a different Pokemon.
Items that Pokemon can hold and also help in battle:
- Leftovers
- Life orb
- Focus sash
- Flame orb
- Expert belt
- Choice scarf
- Choice band
- Choice specs
- Black sludge
- White herb
There are double and triple team battles in the game. Plus in the new handheld Pokemon, there is going to be a free for all mode. But double team battles are where all the strategy is at. There are many moves that attack all Pokemon on the field. Make your other Pokemon use Protect. You can use the powerful move explosion and use project or simply use a ghost type Pokemon. That combo is similar to using Earthquake and a flying type or the ability Levitate. Use the move rain dance and then make the other Pokemon use thunder, to get a guarantee hit with it. This is similar to the combo hail and Blizzard. Skill Swap is a move where you can swap your Pokemons effects. You can create a lot of combos with this move. There is many more different strategys you could use in double team battles.
Yup, i know my Poke stuff. If you want to play an interesting Pokemon game for the story, there is Pokemon coliseum 1 and 2 on the Gamecube. Download a gamecube emulator, if your computer can handle it. If you want to battle random people on-line, you need to download this and make your first Pokemon tea, in it. http://pokemonshowdown.com/ If you play Pokemon on emulators, check out all these hacks http://gbahacks.blogspot.com.au/
